Light, quiet, compact – these features have characterized the Schuberth C3 flip-up helmet for years. Now Schuberth is presenting a completely updated premium partner to the base model C3 – the C3 PRO. The C3 PRO features a molded rear spoiler developed in the Schuberth wind tunnel for minimizing buffeting at higher speed riding. C3 PRO WOMEN
Based on additional research, the C3 PRO WOMEN is specially fitted for a woman’s facial structure, featuring a special contour and materials in the cheek pads to better fit a woman’s higher cheek bones,  narrower jaw and smaller facial features.

Schuberth Rider Communication System for the C3 PRO
The easy-to-install, fully integrated Schuberth Rider Communication System (SRCS C3 PRO) plugs into the C3 PRO’s internal antenna for improved FM radio reception and pairing distance of up to 700 meters.

(Note: The SRCS C3 will fit into the C3 PRO and will function normally, but since it does not plug into the helmet’s antenna, it will not offer the improved reception that can be expected from the new SRCS C3 PRO.  The SRCS C3 PRO does not offer backward compatibility to the C3.  While it will physically fit, there is no internal antenna, so Bluetooth connectivity and radio reception are not possible.)

Stoffel Vandoorne
A real impressive performance came from our Belgian driver Stoffel Vandoorne. He won the Euroseries Formula Renault 2.0 championship with 10 points difference. Ever since the World Series has been the talent pool for upcoming Formula-1 stars and we´re looking forward to see much more of this talented young man.

Bruno Spengler
Another championship won by a Schuberth-Driver: The DTM, the most challenging touring car championship, won by Franco-Canadian Bruno Spengler. Many times did he prove he could be the first crossing the finish line – since 2005 he runs in one of the most advanced touring series worldwide and finished as runner-up in two seasons. But not many would have bet on the championship in the first year after the return of the BMW-team ! Well done Bruno

Erwan Nigon
Just in 2011 did Schuberth start to supply professional motorcycle racer with it´s SR1 helmet. All the more we are excited that our French Schuberth-Rider Erwan Nigon did succeed in the International German Motorcycle championship (IDM). Whoever had the luck to meet Erwan in person and experience this humble and polite person was astonished how much eagerness and dedication he could show on the track. We just can´t wait for the next season with Erwan as our top Schuberth motorcycle rider.

It took us a little bit by surprise when we received the news of winning the Endurance Superstock Worldchampionship with the penz13-team. Second year in motorcycle racing and already a World Champion! Congratulations to Rico Penzkofer and his team penz13 with Pedro Vallcaneras (E), Michal Filla (CZ), Gregory Vastre (B) and Arie Vos (NL). Moreover we take our hat off to Rico participating in two of the most challenging motorcycle races in the world: The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy and his goodbye race at Macau, where this picture was taken – close call!

Nico Hülkenberg
Back to Formula 1: An impressive season by Nico Hülkenberg. With his team Sahara Force India he did not only deliver continuously good results, but also achieved some very respectable standings. We´re happy for him that his performance brought him to a regular cockpit in the promising Sauber F1 Team. This foto has been taken when he visited us at Schuberth for customizing his new SF1 helmet.

Fernando Alonso
The international press did already say anything that can be said about this spectacular Formula 1 season and it´s highlight race at Interlagos. And we know that a top performer like Fernando can only be mildly happy about a second place. Obviously we hoped for another title for Ferrari – but now we like to congratulate Fernando for his unbelievable spirit and fight shown till the last lap of the last race. For us you are the most inspiring Formula 1 driver.

Michael Schumacher
Last but not least we´d like to honor our friend Michael Schumacher. Since 11 years we work together very closely. Many developments and innovations have their origin in his pursuit of perfection. Most of our achievements were really his achievements: we could celebrate 4 out of 7 World Championships with him. We take off our hat – or more precisely our helmet – to honor this outstanding athlete. Michael, we´ll miss you on the track. But at the same time we´re happy that we can still continue to profit of your experience and your knowledge now that you ended your professional career – looking forward!

Korea was a new and dirty track – and after the race was finished, we could see that, when the drivers helmets were back in our hands in the garage. On the pictures below, you may find the dirt . On Nico Rosbergs helmet, you find some chrash debris from his accident with the red bull of Mark Webber. Its is very interesting for us to see, what is all on a helmet  after a race with a lot of fights. somethimes you find dirt, broken scoops, destroyed visor stripes, very dirty visors (even they could use tear-offs – unbeliveable but true), or tyre rubber all over the helmet.

At the end of the day, we were able to remove all the dirt and to let the helmets shine again – ready for the next grand prix.

Heavy rain in Japan was the reason for some confusion on Saturday morning and therefore the Qualifying was started on Sunday.

If it rains as strong as in Japan, a Formula-one helmet must be cleaned and dried again, up to the smallest opening for perfect comfort and the perfect look.

In Japan this was very important on Michael Schumacher’s helmet. His helmet appeared in a slightly changed design in Japan. On each side, new sponsors logos were gleaming on the helmet of the 7-times world champion. A reason for us to show to you a few nice pictures from Japan:

Because the decision occurred relatively at short notice to Japan GP, the logos could not become fully painted for the Race in the Far East.

Hence, we had to stick the logos on all 3 helmets of Michael on the sides. The result is worth a notice. We hope you like it, too. But it was a lot of work, always to stick new logos on it and remove them after each session for cleaning the gear. But this is what makes the Schuberth Racing Service so special.  To give the products the special look. The logos became then fully painted for the last three races on all helmets.

JM: “Michael Schumacher already had his own design back then, when he came to us and Schuberth. From then on we tried to bring in our ideas.”

TS: “How many designs have you been doing for Schumacher so far ?

JM: “I would call it design development. There have been about 20-30 since 2001. The most important step was certainly when I was able to convince him that his name didn´t need to be on the helmet. At that time he was already 3-time world champion.

Another step was when I had suggested to him to wear the names of his family on the helmet. He really liked that idea from the beginning  and it was very important for him to carry  his family “along with him”

TS: “What was the most spectacular helmet, which you´ve designed?”

JM: „Regarding the emotions involved, it definitely was the helmet we designed after 9/11/2001. Three weeks after that we had the U.S. Grand Prix and we thought about how we can set a mark and so the idea came up to replace the Germany-colors with the star- spangeled banner. Even CNN did report about Michael Schumacher driving with the American flag on the helmet. The helmet was auctioned off afterwards to support the victims of the attack.

TS: “How long does it usually take before a design is actually implemented, from the initial idea to the finished helmet?”

JM: “From the first idea to the graphics and finally to the first painting, you can expect about 2-3 days.”

TS: “Some of our readers are probably keen hobby riders. How long does it take for them until the helmet is finished? “

JM: “Once design is fixed, it takes about 15h to paint and build the helmet. The problem is that we have very long waiting list. Especially right now in preseason. We actually paint 2 helmets per week maximum. “

TS: “How many employees do you have now?”

JM: “We are currently seven.”

TS: “And how many of them are airbrush artists?”

JM: “It isn´t divided that simply. We have people for the graphics processing, printing and organization, everyone else is involved in the painting process. One does more of the preparation work, the other applies the lines- there are different stages here. Basically, the work at each helmet is coproduction, so several employees work on a helmet at the same time. “

TS: “What does it cost to design a helmet if I would ask as a private person with my motorcycle?”

JM: “We currently do not bike helmets anymore. This is a result of waiting times getting longer and longer. So we had to limit ourselves to a scene that we can serve within a reasonable time – for motorcycle helmets there was simply no time left. In addition, a motorcycle helmet and it´s mechanic is very complex and very costly to deconstruct. We have a lot of slidings, air hoses and components, which can not be dismantled that easily. To paint a motorcycle helmet properly you really need the raw shells, which is impossible with most of the motorcycle brands – except for Schuberth, since it is obviously much easier because of the existing cooperation.

TS: “You are also producing the replica helmets for the formula 1 teams and private customers. Does this process take as long as an original race helmet? “

JM: “Yes, the only thing that might go faster is the simultaneous painting of several helmets at a time. The preparation time is shorter with composing the color for more then one helmet. But the production of a Replika helmet is exactly the same as the original race helmet.

TS: “What was the hardest deadline you had to meet?”

JM: “There have been cases in which I´ve received calls in the evening and the morning after, the helmet had to be finished. Especially in the beginning with Nick Heidfeld when Schuberth started with F1, the shell was constantly modified and aerodynamic components had to be adjusted. There were some night-shifts for us.”

TS: “Jens – thank you for your time. And to round it all of, we will paint a Michael Schumacher’s Helmet all red now.”
